East Northport Residents to Shave Heads for Childhood Cancer Research

Fr. Thomas A. Judge Knights of Columbus team's event, to be held in Commack, supports the St. Baldrick's Foundation.

Some East Northport residents are gearing up to support the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a volunteer-driven charity dedicated to raising money for childhood cancer research.

As members of the Fr. Thomas A. Judge Knights of Columbus team, these residents will host one of the signature head-shaving events at Miller’s Commack Ale House in the Target Shopping Center on Vets Highway Sunday, March 15 (12-6 p.m.), where more than 200 “shavees” will shave their heads in solidarity with kids with cancer and raise money to Conquer Childhood Cancers!

The Fr. Thomas A. Judge Knights of Columbus team is just one of several teams that have been formed to maximize their fund raising efforts. With just a few weeks to go, the team is well on their way to reaching its goal of $11,000. If you would like to make a donation on their heads, visit their St. Baldrick’s website at http://www.stbaldricks.org/teams/FrJudgeKofC and click on “Donate” or call team Captain Bob Slingo at (631) 486-2875.

Why all the shaved heads? Worldwide a child is diagnosed with cancer every three minutes, and one in five children diagnosed in the U.S. will not survive. With only 4 percent of all federal cancer research funding dedicated to pediatric cancer research, St. Baldrick’s Foundation volunteers, supporters and donors are needed to continue the battle against this devastating disease.
