Fountaingate Gardens Holds Groundbreaking In Commack
The 10-acre, 129-unit independent living complex is scheduled to open in 2022, according to Gurwin Healthcare System.

COMMACK, NY — A groundbreaking ceremony for Fountaingate Gardens, an incoming 10-acre, 129-unit independent living complex for people 62-years-and-over, was held on Tuesday in Commack. Stuart B. Almer, president and CEO of Gurwin Healthcare System, led the ceremony.
The first residences and clubhouse are scheduled to open in 2022. The project has been several years in the making.
"Together with our nursing home and our assisted living facility, we will have one of the few life-plan communities on Long Island that allow residents to access a full continuum of care for the rest of their lives," Almer stated via news release. "You’re not only buying high end luxury living, but you also are buying the healthcare you need for you or your spouse. It’s built into the program."

Fountaingate Gardens will be a new residential community and just the fourth Life Plan Community on Long Island. It will be centrally located on Hauppauge Road in western Suffolk County and moments from highway access.

A time capsule was created by the founding residents of the future complex, containing a variety of items that represent the challenges and triumphs of the last year, including a COVID-19 face covering, a vial of COVID-19 vaccine, and other items associated with the construction of the complex.

Participants also used Gurwin-branded shovels in a traditional "turning of dirt" ceremony.
The vision of Fountaingate Gardens is that of a "charming, village-like ambiance offering a dynamic lifestyle for residents," according to Gurwin Healthcare System.

Dining venues, a fitness center, social gathering places, and other amenities will be just a few steps away from each residence. Winding paths will meander through landscaped grounds, and a winding, babbling brook will create a scenic oasis for residents to enjoy.
Residences in the new community will be in two elegant building styles and may be customized to each resident’s preference. The project is already almost 65 percent sold, with some of the most popular floor plans nearly or completely unavailable.
Preliminary work on Fountaingate Gardens began in June 2020.
