Fourth Annual Crab Meadow Beach Sand Castle Contest Looks for a Sunny Day

Are you exceptionally good at making sand castles? Show off your skills at this upcoming contest.

The poor weather once again canceled another sand castle contest that was supposed to coincide with the drive-in movie showing of “Raiders of the Lost Ark” at Crab Meadow Beach last week.

But the Fourth Annual Sand Castle Contest lives on. It has been rescheduled for Wednesday, Aug. 19 at Crab Meadow Beach.

“The Sandcastle Contest provides something fun for everyone to do at the beach and it’s always exciting to see what kind of sand sculptures our local artists will come up with next,” said Councilman Mark Cuthbertson.

Contestants are encouraged to bring out their creative sides during this contest. They will be allowed to use additional materials to accessorize their sand castles as long as the materials are environmentally friendly.

Sand castles will be judged based on creativity, resourcefulness, originality and accessories. Two winners, one for each age group, will receive a gift certificate to LaCasa Café.

In the event of another rainy day, the Sandcastle Contest will be held on Thursday, Aug. 20.
