Hazardous Weather Outlook Issued for Commack

The National Weather Service cautions that some roads could be "treacherous" late tonight and early Tuesday.

The mercury hit 50 degrees on Long Island Monday afternoon and helped to melt some of the snow that has piled up just about everywhere, but all of that snowmelt may pose hazards on the roadways tonight and early Tuesday morning.

The National Weather Service has issued the following hazardous weather outlook for the region:

RUNOFF FROM SNOWMELT WILL REFREEZE TONIGHT AND PATCHY BLACK ICE WILL FORM AS TEMPERATURES DROP BELOW THE FREEZING MARK AND INTO THE 20S. UNTREATED ROADS AND SIDEWALKS WILL BECOME SLICK AND ICY. MOTORISTS AND PEDESTRIANS SHOULD EXERCISE CAUTION TONIGHT AS TRAVEL MAY BE TREACHEROUS IN SPOTS.

More melting will continue this week as temps will likely reach 50 once again on Wednesday, but then we could get a dose of reality by the weekend. A snow/rain mix is possible beginning late Friday, and it could continue all the way into Sunday morning, the National Weather Service says.
