Latest Suffolk County Weather: Winter Storm Warning in Effect Until 6 p.m.
Snow total projections have dropped since Monday morning.

Snow is falling across Long Island Monday and Suffolk County is expected to get the worst of it.
Here are the details from the National Weather Service:
WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EST THIS EVENING... * LOCATIONS...SUFFOLK COUNTY ON LONG ISLAND. * HAZARD TYPES...HEAVY SNOW...STRONG WINDS...AND BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW.
* ACCUMULATIONS...SNOW ACCUMULATION OF 5 TO 9 INCHES. * WINDS...NORTH 15 TO 25 MPH WITH GUSTS UP TO 35 MPH. * TEMPERATURES...IN THE LOWER 30S. * VISIBILITIES...ONE QUARTER MILE OR LESS AT TIMES.
* TIMING...SNOW WILL BE HEAVY AT TIMES THIS MORNING INTO THE EARLY AFTERNOON...THEN GRADUALLY TAPER OFF LATE THIS AFTERNOON.
* IMPACTS...THE COMBINATION OF STRONG WINDS AND HEAVY WET SNOW WILL BRING DOWN TREE LIMBS AND POWER LINES. HAZARDOUS TRAVEL CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED DUE TO GREATLY REDUCED VISIBILITIES AND SIGNIFICANT SNOW ACCUMULATIONS. NEAR BLIZZARD CONDITIONS ARE EXPECTED...ESPECIALLY OUT ON THE FORKS AND ON FISHERS ISLAND.

The highest snow totals are expected in eastern Suffolk, where an inch of snow an hour may fall at times. A total of 3-6 inches of snow is likely in Nassau County, which is under a winter weather advisory until 6 p.m. Monday.
Snow is also expected to fall Monday night and through Tuesday on Long Island. Another several inches of snow is likely to accumulate by the end of Tuesday. There is a 70 percent chance of light snow on Wednesday and a 50 percent chance of light snow on Thursday.
