'Prolonged Period of Wintry Precipitation' in the Long Island Forecast
A large storm is expected to impact Long Island early next week.

The good news: the Super Bowl Sunday snow threat for Long Island has diminished. The bad news: a much larger storm system could bring snow, rain and gusty winds to the area early next week.
There's a 40 percent chance light snow during the day Sunday, but no accumulations are expected.
Monday night is when things may start to get interesting. Precipitation is expected to break out ahead of a warm front with a wintry mix. The storm system could hang around until early Wednesday.

"There will likely be a prolonged period of wintry precipitation, transitioning to rain Tuesday into Tuesday night," the NWS says.
"Other than a front end snow when this gets underway, this is going to be a wind and rain event for our area especially later Tuesday night into Wednesday of next week," Joe Cioffi, a meteorologist for WPIX and FiOS1, writes on his website. "Until then the weather looks relatively quiet but cold."
