Severe Storm Slams Commack, Knocks Down Trees/Wires: PHOTOS

Check out the damage left behind but the unexpected storm that hit the area Sunday.

COMMACK, NY - An unexpected storm hit many areas on Long Island's north shore hard on Sunday -- including Commack.

The strong thunderstorm packing strong winds, heavy rain and hail slammed the area, causing damage to cars and property in town.

In addition, trees and wires were downed in the area, leaving as many local residents without power, according to PSEG Long Island. As of Monday afternoon, 4,932 Commack customers still don't have power, which is expected to be restored Tuesday by 5:30 p.m.

"PSEG Long Island is reporting approximately 23,834 of its 1.1 million customers across Long Island and the Rockaways are currently without service," the utility said in a 5:30 a.m. update Monday. "As of 5:15 a.m., the utility has restored service to more than 46,800 customers impacted by yesterday's significant storm."
