COMMACK, NY — A student posted on social media what Suffolk police thought to be a threat against Commack High School on Wednesday night, according to a letter the Commack School District sent parents via email. Police reported the posting to school administration.

The student was questioned, and his home was searched by police, according to the letter. No weapons were found, and the student won't be allowed on school property for "the foreseeable future," the district wrote.

Police told Patch a message was posted to social media the department perceived as threatening, but said officers determined there was no threat after an investigation. The department would not comment on a search of the student's home.

"Our security team and administrators worked very closely with SCPD into the early morning hours to investigate and determined that the posting was not a credible threat."

The district wrote in its letter that security would be heightened and police would be at the school on Thursday in an act of caution.
