Tornado Watch Issued For Suffolk County

Severe storms will hit the region; thunder, 75 mph wind gusts and hail are possible.

SUFFOLK COUNTY, NY — The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch for Suffolk County. It's in effect until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Tornadoes are possible in and near the watch area. The National Weather Service advised residents to review and discuss your emergency plans and check supplies and your safe room. Be ready to act quickly if a warning is issued or you suspect a tornado is approaching.

Severe thunderstorms are expected in the afternoon and evening and wind gusts could top 75 mph. Hail is also possible.

"This could cause areas of widespread tree and power line damage and resultant power outages,"the National Weather Service said.

The risk of severe storms will be highest from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m.
