Arctic Blast Arrives Monday, Wind Chills Could Hit Zero

Get set for a frigid return to work as winter finally arrives in full force on Long Island.

The record-breaking warm temperatures of December will be a thing of the past early this week as an Arctic air blast makes its way to Long Island.

The National Weather Service predicts temperatures overnight Sunday into Monday will drop down to the mid-20s. Daytime highs Monday will be in the low-30s with wind chill temperatures between 15 and 20 degrees.

The temperature will fall into the mid-teens Monday night and with wind gusts nearing 30 mph, wind chill temperatures will approach and may hit zero late Monday into Tuesday morning, the NWS says.

You will need your full winter wardrobe for Tuesday morning. At 7 a.m., the temperature will be near 18 degrees and the wind chill will make it feel like 4 degrees.

β€œThis air will be the coldest of the season thus far, which might not seem like much on paper, but it will deliver significantly low temperatures,” AccuWeather Chief Long Range Meteorologist Paul Pastelok said.
