Black History Month at Saints Cyril and Methodius School

SSCM Eighth graders commemorate Black History Month

Black History Month, or National African American History Month, is an annual celebration of achievements by black Americans and a time for recognizing the central role of African Americans in U.S. history. Eighth graders at Saints Cyril and Methodius School in Deer Park commemorated the month in a number of way, including a dramatic recitation of the poem β€œI Am a Man: Ode to Martin Luther King, Jr.” by Eve Merriam.

They also worked as a team to create and put on their play β€œA Protest for Peace” about the Montgomery, Alabama, Bus Boycott in 1955. The efforts of the boycotters proved worthwhile and by the end of the play, the buses were full again after a successful protest.
