UPDATE: 2 Arrested After North Babylon Crash Involving Police Car

The two men in the car that hit the police car were arrested after the crash on drug charges, police said.

NORTH BABYLON, NY β€” Two men were arrested after a car hit a marked police car before slamming into a home in a fiery crash in North Babylon Friday afternoon, according to Suffolk police.

DaSean Player, 31, of West Babylon, was driving a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder eastbound on Woods Road at a high rate of speed when he failed to stop at a stop sign and collided with the police car that was traveling southbound on Elkton Lane at 1:55 p.m., police said.

He then lost control of the Nissan and struck a house on Elkton Lane, police said. The Nissan caught fire which spread to the house. No one in the house was injured

The fire was extinguished and the officer was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

A passenger in the Nissan, 32-year-old Steven Glover, of Wyandanch, fled the scene and was caught shortly after, police said.

Player was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with non-life-threatening injuries. Glover was transported to Southside Hospital in Bay Shore with non-life-threatening injuries.

The officer was transported via Suffolk County Police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

Nicole Vecchione, who was at the scene, told Patch that after witnessing the crash, she told an officer that the car was on fire and someone was still inside in the passenger's seat. She then ran in the house to get the people outside.

Both were arrested after the crash, police said. Player was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance and reckless driving. He also had a parole warrant, police said. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

Glover was charged with third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, fourth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, two counts of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, resisting arrest and third-degree attempted assault for kicking and spitting at a police officer while stating he had COVID, police said.

Glover also had an active parole warrant, police said. He will be arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip on a later date.

The North Babylon Fire Department, PSEG and the Town of Babylon building inspector responded and assisted at the scene of the house fire.

Both vehicles were impounded for safety checks. The investigation is continuing. Anyone with information is asked to call the First Squad at 631-854-8152.
