Deer Park BOE Set to Adopt Budget Tuesday

Board will meet at 7:30 p.m. at district administrative office.

The Deer Park Board of Education will hold a budget work session on Tuesday evening.

The BOE is expected to adopt the 2013-2014 draft budget at the meeting, which begins at 7:30 p.m. at the district adminstrative office on Deer Park Avenue.

School officials revealed details of the updated draft budget, which calls for a 2.4 percent increase from the current year's spending plan and a 2.99 percent tax levy.

Among the proposed cuts is an estimated 4 percent reduction in staff, and co-curricular reductions, which Superintendent Eva Demyen called "minor."

The BOE also voted to close Abraham Lincoln School in June, a measure that will save the district approximately $249,000 next year.

The budget vote will take place on Tuesday, May 21.
