Deer Park Hosts Summer School Carnival
The carnival was held in August at the John F. Kennedy Intermediate School gymnasium to celebrate the program's end.

The Deer Park School District held its first summer school carnival at the John F. Kennedy Intermediate School gymnasium to celebrate the programβs last day. Students at the event enjoyed games, coloring books, bubble blowing, hula-hooping, cotton candy and a visit from Mister Softee.
βI thought it would be nice to do something for the children who worked so hard all summer,β teacher Phyllis Senia, the carnivalβs planner, said. βIt shows them that coming to school brings a reward, where they can play and have a good time.β
The summer program includes a variety of activities and field trips and benefits approximately 60 special education students from each of the districtβs schools, who range in grade from kindergarten to high school. The program is aided by a staff of 33 teachers and administrators as well as student volunteers.
