Deer Park's Melyssa Mathewson scored the game-winning goal Saturday for Adelphi as the Panthers topped LeMoyne College 9-8 in the opening round of the NCAA Division II Women's Lacrosse Tournament. Trailing 8-3, Adelphi rallied with five consecutive goals to tie the game at eight. With the clock winding down, Mathewson found the ball in her stick and beat LeMoyne's goalie Molly Marbut with a low shot to give the Panthers a one goal lead, and ultimately the victory. On the season, Mathewson has 22 goals and 18 assists. A member of Deer Park High School's Class of 2010, she was a four-year member of the school's varsity team and was a three-time all county selection.
