DEER PARK, NYβ€”This week the Diocese of Rockville Centre announced plans for a new Catholic school. Our Lady of Guadalupe will open this fall as a dual-language elementary and middle school Catholic school.

The two campuses will be formed from buildings at closing Catholic schools The School of Ss. Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park and Our Lady of Providence in Central Islip.

Our Lady of Guadalupe will offer nursery school and pre-K, extended day elementary education and free aftercare.

"Research shows dual language programs increase cognitive capacity...while boosting social and emotional well-being," Bishop John Barres said in a statement.

The plans hope to address both declining parochial enrollment and a growing community of Spanish-speaking families in Western Central Suffolk.
