Dogs Attack People, Cop After Escaping North Babylon Yard: PD
Suffolk police said four people were bit and two were hospitalized; a police officer shot at the dogs.
NORTH BABYLON, NY β Four people were bit and two were hospitalized after three dogs escaped from a North Babylon home Monday night, according to Suffolk police.
Officers responded to a 911 call of multiple pit bulls from the same home biting people at about 7:22 p.m. The dogs escaped from a yard on Woods Road, police said.
The four people were treated for injuries that were not considered life-threatening. Two were transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip.

The dogs retreated to their yard and back into the neighborhood several times. At one point, the dogs attacked an officer and a state contractor who responds to animal complaints, police said. The officer fired two shots at the dogs, which were not struck.
The dogs retreated back to their yard again. The homeowner then arrived and secured them in the backyard at 9:45 p.m., police said.

Police notified the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals and Babylon dog warden. The dogs are currently in the possession of their owner.
