Legislator Tom Donnelly recognized Troop 499 for their work in securing donations for Thanksgiving meals.

January 12, 2021) – Suffolk Legislator Tom Donnelly (D-Huntington Station), recently honored and surprised members of Deer Park Girl Scout Troop 499 for their work in securing donations to provide Thanksgiving meals for local families by joining them at their December Zoom meeting.

The Girl Scouts participated in the annual Island Harvest Thanksgiving Food Drive, gathering enough donations to provide 12 holiday meals for local families. Certificates of Honored Recognition from Legislator Donnelly were delivered to Troop Leader Jennifer Heissenbuttel in advance of the December 11 Zoom meeting and she distributed them to each of the Girl Scouts. As Legislator Donnelly congratulated and thanked them during the meeting, each Girl Scout held up her special certificate.

β€œEvery year, the girls of Troop 499 donate Thanksgiving meals to our community,” said Troop Leader Jennifer Heissenbuttel. β€œThe events of 2020 encouraged our girls to go a step further and we were able to donate 12 full Thanksgiving dinners this year. We are so proud of our Troop.”
