Man Arrested After Leading Police On Chase Through N. Babylon: PD
The 22-year-old first tried to escape police by car and later tried to run away, during which his gun discharged, police said.
NORTH BABYLON, NY β An Amityville man was arrested after his gun discharged during a police chase in North Babylon Saturday afternoon, according to Suffolk police.
An officer tried to pull over a Nissan Maxima for traffic infractions on Deer Park Avenue, near Garnet Street, when the car drove away and crashed into a Hyundai SUV on Woods Road, west of Deer Park Avenue, at 2:20 p.m., police said.
The Maxima fled and hit a Nissan Rogue 100 feet away on Route 231. The Maxima then tried to drive away again but became disabled a short distance away, police said. The driver of the Hyundai was not injured. The driver and passenger in the Rogue were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

The driver of the Maxima, identified as 22-year-old Tahlik Brown, then ran away through the parking lot of a strip mall on 1171 Deer Park Avenue, police said. During the chase, his gun discharged one round, police said. The two officers who were chasing him were not injured.
He was found in a detached garage on Mohawk Drive at 3 p.m., police said. The handgun was found in a nearby pool, police said.

Brown was arrested and charged with second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, first-degree reckless endangerment, leaving the scene of an accident and several vehicle and traffic summonses, police said. He was held overnight at the First Precinct and is scheduled for arraignment at First District Court in Central Islip on Sunday.
