Man Involved In Crash Found To Be Connected To 2020 Burglary: PD

While investigating a car crash, police arrested a 40-year-old man for burglarizing a business last year.

NORTH BABYLON, NY β€” Suffolk police say they discovered a Deer Park man was involved in a burglary that occurred last year in North Babylon while investigating a car crash in West Babylon Tuesday night.

Matthew Vicchiarelli, 40, was involved in a crash on Babylon Farmingdale Road at 10:08 p.m., police said.

While an officer on the scene was investigating the crash, they found that Vicchiarelli had four active warrants, police said. He was arrested and transported to the First Precinct.

An investigation revealed that Vicchiarelli had burglarized New Kristy's Smoke and Card Shop on 54 Deer Shore Square where he stole six cartons of cigarettes, lottery tickets, and cash in February 2020, police said.

He was charged with third-degree burglary.
