Minor Snowfall, Major Temperature Drops Heading for Deer Park-North Babylon

Wind chills in the negatives will blow into Long Island Thursday and Friday.

A little snow and a big temperature drop are heading for Long Island over the next few days, according to the National Weather Service.

Around an inch of snow is expected to fall on Long Island Wednesday night, NWS reported. Some snow showers are possible Thursday before 1 p.m.

That minor snowfall will be quickly followed by some of the lowest wind chills reported so far this winter.

Wind chill values will fall to between -5 and -15 degrees across Nassau and Suffolk Counties. An official NWS alert stated wind chills could fall as far as -20 degrees.

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 29. Wind chill values between 15 and 25. Northeast wind around 5 mph becoming light and variable in the afternoon.

Wednesday night: Snow showers likely, mainly before midnight. Cloudy, with a low around 17. Wind chill values between 5 and 10. Light and variable wind becoming west 9 to 14 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation is 60%. New snow accumulation of less than one inch possible.

Thursday: A slight chance of snow showers before 1pm. Partly sunny, with a high near 22. Wind chill values between zero and 5. Breezy, with a northwest wind 21 to 23 mph, with gusts as high as 36 mph. Chance of precipitation is 20%.

Thursday night: Mostly cloudy, with a low around 3. Wind chill values between -5 and -15. Breezy, with a west wind around 21 mph, with gusts as high as 32 mph.
