N. Babylon Community Raises Over $19K To Help Family After Fire
A GoFundMe page helped to raise thousands for a family who lost their home several pets in a devasting fire recently.
NORTH BABYLON, NY β The North Babylon community came together to help a local family whose house was severely damaged in a house fire recently.
The blaze was reported at an August Road home on Jan. 23. According to the North Babylon Fire Department, firefighters made "aggressive attempts" to push through the fire and search the home due to reports that an occupant was still trapped inside, which was later proved to be false.

The fire department stated that while no injuries were reported, several animals were found dead in the home.

Shortly after a local resident, Shannon M., started an online fundraiser on GoFundMe to help the family after the devastating fire.
"While insurance will assist in the long run, I am hoping to provide some quick, short term necessities/essentials: (clothing, food, etc)," Shannon wrote on the page. "100 percent of the donations will be given directly to the home owners, anything helps."

The goal of the page was to raise a total of $20,000 for the family. In just two weeks, the community came together to raise $19,795.
