N. Babylon Hoops Star Eyes A National Title

Bria Hartley and her Connecticut teammates gearing up for another run at a Division I championship.

A former North Babylon High School basketball star will take her first step toward a collegiate national championship this weekend.

Bria Hartley and her University of Connecticut teammates will play this Saturday at Gampel Pavilion in Storrs, Conn., with a 1:30 p.m. tip-off time. Seeded number one in the Bridgeport Region, the Huskies will play 16-seed Idaho.

UConn remains one of the top women's college basketball teams in the country, entering the tournament with a 29-4 record. The Huskies only losses during the season were to Notre Dame (three times) and Baylor.

Now in her junior year, Hartley during the 2012-13 season is averaging 9 points, 3.7 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game.

During her high school career, Hartley was named New York’s Gatorade Player of the Year in 2009 and 2010. In her senior season, she averaged 30 points, 8.3 rebounds, 7.4 assists, 5.9 steals and 5 blocks per game.
