NBFD Ceremony Honors Young Hero

If not for the actions of a 12-year old boy, the impact of a late May house fire at 43 Scott Ave. in North Babylon could have been far worse.

With fire alarms inside his home blaring just after midnight on May 30, Dominic Cappellino awoke and alerted his parents. In just minutes, the family of seven along with all family pets safely evacuated the house, which sustained significant damage.

On Monday, the North Babylon Fire Department, Babylon Town Supervisor Richard Schaffer and County Executive Steve Bellone honored Dominic for his heroic actions in a ceremony at NBFD headquarters.

Schaffer presented Dominic with the town’s highest honor, the Heroism Award, and declared Monday, June 17, “Dominic Cappellino Day.”
