NY Cop From Deer Park Recovering From Gun Shot Wound

A New York City Police Officer from Deer Park is recovering after being shot in the hand on Father’s Day.

According to News 12, Joseph Koch was off duty and at a party in Jamaica when he went to investigate a domestic dispute. Police said a man in the house attempted to get Koch’s weapon and three shots were fired.

The suspect, Jose Bernazard, was shot three times and remains hospitalized with bullet wounds in his abdomen, neck and hand, according to the Daily News. Koch was shot in the hand and may require additional surgeries.

Bernazard is charged with five counts of assault and five counts of criminal contempt, along with aggravated harassment, burglary, endangering the welfare of a child and resisting arrest, according to published reports.
