NYZ Apocalypse Aims to Provide Immersive Zombie Experience

If you’ve ever wondered if you’re tough enough to survive a zombie attack, a new Deer Park attraction aims to help determine whether or not you’re truly apocalypse-ready.

At NYZ Apocalypse, a new immersive theater attraction available on Commack Road, you will be armed with a full-weight, realistic gas-recoil (laser) rifle or handgun as you battle hordes of zombies in the infected Apollo Prison, an underground maximum-security penitentiary. 

“Zombies are something that people are very excited and enthusiastic about,” said NYZ owner Peter Rosato. “But no one in the world can say they’ve experienced real zombies. At NYZ Apocalypse, we’ve come up with a way to help people experience a realistic zombie situation.”

“[NYZ Apocalypse] is about captivating realism and bringing people to believe what they’re doing is real even though it’s 100 percent safe,” he added. “It’s something you can’t get anywhere else.”

NYZ, which stands for New York Zombie, features a professional set and professional actors, with scents for each themed room, sirens, air bursting from pipes and the like.

“Seven-year-olds have absolutely loved it, and full-blown adults have called it the most fearful thing they’ve ever experienced,” said Rosato. “You come in and you’re kind of in this rude awakening that you’re not in a normal place anymore.” 

From entrance to exit, the experience lasts roughly 50 minutes, is zero contact, and is recommended for adults and kids aged ten and up. NYZ Apocalypse is open on Fridays from 6 p.m. until midnight, Saturdays from 4 p.m. until midnight, and Sundays from 4 p.m. until 9 p.m.
