Officer Injured While Breaking Up Brawl After HS Basketball Game

BREAKING: A fight broke out outside North Babylon High School after a game between Deer Park and North Babylon Friday afternoon.

NORTH BABYLON, NY – A Suffolk County Police officer was taken to the hospital after he was injured while breaking up a fight outside North Babylon High School Friday afternoon. Police say the brawl broke out at 4:45 p.m. between basketball fans who had just watched a game between North Babylon and Deer Park.

The basketball teams were not involved in the fight. An officer was punched when he was attempting to break up the fight. He was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip with a contusion and eye injury. No arrests have been made.

"The police officers and security guards on site handled the situation quickly and the campus was cleared," North Babylon Superintendent Glen Eschbach said. "The district’s security team has launched an internal investigation and will assist police as needed."
