Over 130 Applicants To Be Consider For Affordable Senior Complex

The applicants will have to chance to live in one of the 40 affordable units in the development in Deer Park.

DEER PARK, NY β€” As the construction of the near senior rental complex in Deer Park is nearing completion, over 130 residents were recently chosen to be considered for 40 affordable units in the development.

Town of Babylon Supervisor Rich Schaffer, Deputy Supervisor Tony Martinez, Councilmen Terry McSweeney and DuWayne Gregory and Town Clerk Gerry Compitello welcomed the Long Island Housing Partnership (LIHP) and developer Engel Burman to Babylon Town Hall to host the housing lottery for the complex on Sutton Court.

The elected officials, joined by a representative from New York State Assemblywoman Kimberly Jean-Pierre’s office, pulled 134 applicant names to be considered for the 40 affordable units in the development. Schaffer, who joined virtually, and Martinez stated that they are excited to welcome the development to Deer Park, as it will provide much-needed housing in the area.

"Sutton Landing at Deer Park represents smart redevelopment of an underutilized site providing much needed affordable housing for our growing senior population within a beautiful mixed income community," Peter J. Elkowitz, President and CEO of the Long Island Housing Partnership, said. "LIHP is very happy to work with the Town of Babylon and the developer, Engel Burman, to connect seniors in need with these safe, well designed and affordable units."

When completed, the development will have 200 two-bedroom and two-bathroom units in total, 40 of which are affordable pursuant to Town of Babylon code. The property was previously home to the closed George Washington School.
