Patriotic Deer Park Students Win 9/11 Essay Contest

Three Deer Park students win the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Departments 9/11 Essay Contest, received awards at annual Remembrance Ceremony.

Three patriotic Deer Park students – John F. Kennedy Intermediate School fifth-grader Steven Mendell, Robert Frost Middle School sixth-grader Damian Ellner and Deer Park High School sophomore Badar Zaman – were recognized as winners of the Deer Park Volunteer Fire Department’s 9/11 Essay Contest.

Mendell’s essay discussed the ways that numerous people in the community came together to help each during the crisis on Sept. 11, 2001. Ellner and Zaman both wrote about the importance of remembering those who lost their lives on 9/11.

β€œI talked about how they made the ultimate sacrifice,” said Ellner.
