Police: Woman On Drugs Drove With Kid In Car

Michelle Mcdermid facing numerous charges following Friday night arrest in Deer Park.

A Wyandanch woman was arrested Friday night in Deer Park and charged with driving under the influence of drugs with a child in her vehicle, Suffolk County Police said.

According to police, Michelle Mcdermid, 29, was allegedly seen driving a 2000 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Grand Ave. at a high rate of speed just before 11 p.m. Friday night. Officers Justin Maynes and Liam Kelly conducted a traffic stop and determined that Mcdermid was allegedly driving under the influence of drugs. Also in the car was a 12-year old female passenger in the front seat.

Mcdermid is charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated with a child passenger 15 years old or younger (Leandra’s Law), driving under the influence of drugs, endangering the welfare of a child, aggravated unlicensed operation of motor vehicle, criminal possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of marijuana.

She is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court in Central Islip. The investigation is continuing. Detectives are asking anyone with information about this incident to call theΒ First Squad atΒ 631-854-8152.
