A severe thunderstorm watch is issued when severe thunderstorms are possible in and near the watch area. It does not mean that they will occur. It only means they are possible.
Severe storms will also be possible Wednesday and then attention will turn to Elsa, currently a tropical storm about 55 miles west of Key West and forecast to make landfall along the north Florida Gulf coast on Wednesday.

The remnants of Elsa could drench the island in up to 3 inches of rain late Thursday through Friday, the weather service says. Winds are not expected to be a big concern in the area.
Regardless of Elsa`s track, it is likely that strong rip currents will occur along with potential
coastal impacts later this week.
