Severe Thunderstorms Possible Wednesday on Long Island

Here comes round two.

It's time for round two. After more than inch of rain fell across Long Island Tuesday, the island will get soaked again Wednesday and severe thunderstorms are a possibility, the National Weather Service says.

First things first: if you are on the road Wednesday morning, be aware that patchy dense fog could reduce visibilities to a quarter mile or less in spots. "Leave extra room between cars and use the low beam setting on your headlights," the NWS advises.

Rain will move back into the area from southwest to northeast, mainly from mid-morning onward.

"Intensity should start off on the light side, but as weak low pressure starts to develop this afternoon and evening, rain will come down moderate to heavy at times," the experts at the NWS Forecast Office New York say.

There's a slight chance thunderstorms, some of which could be severe, from 3 p.m until midnight.

A total of an inch to an inch-and-a-half of rain is expected to fall across Long Island before the rain tapers off late Wednesday night and then dry conditions return for Thursday, with continued above-normal temperatures.
