In 2016, NYSSMA, the New York State School Music Association, celebrates its 84th year as the largest state affiliate of the National Association for Music Education (NAfME). NYSSMA’s mission is to advocate for and improve music education across New York State by promoting and producing appropriate activities and programs for its membership and students in member school music programs.
This year, NYSSMA's Spring 2016 Solo & Ensemble Festival in Babylon was filled with high notes, from trumpeters to flautists and vocalists to violinists. Several students from Saints Cyril and Methodius in Deer Park attended this year, with shiny instruments and clean music sheets in hand. They were ready for the day of auditioning and did their school proud with top marks.
