Students Learn to Reuse-A-Shoe

Donated hundreds of sneakers that were reused for track and playground surfaces.

The Environmental-Recycling Club at Robert Moses Middle School in the North Babylon School District promoted and participated in Reuse-A-Shoe, a community service project sponsored by Nike.

Over a one-week period, students donated more than 200 outworn athletic sneakers. As part of the national program, Nike grinds the shoes down and uses the material for surfaces such as tracks, playgrounds and tennis courts. Representatives from Nike visited the school to recognize the club for its recycling efforts.
