WYANDANCH, NY - Everybody has a favorite teacher β maybe it's a teacher who went out of their way to make one student's day or a teacher who brightens up a classroom, whether virtually or in-person, every day.
One teacher who deserves a shout-out is Ms. Pam Calandra, a librarian at La Francis Hardiman/Martin L. King Jr. Elementary School in Wyandanch. She was nominated as this week's Teacher of the Week by Barbara Koos.
Here's what Koos had to say about Ms. Calandra:

She works extremely hard to make library exciting and fun for the entire School. Last year she created a balloon parade to mimic the Thanksgiving day parade and all the children presented their balloons down the hall to the entire School. She sets up readings from famous groups like Citibank to read to the children via Zoom as an exciting activity. She spends hours planning her activities incorporating modern technology and books for Hands-On learners. She donates her time and money to anyone who needs her help by creating banners and creating beautifully displayed bulletin boards. During this time of remote learning she is always available by telephone or in person to help others in need. Ms Calandra goes out of her way to make sure all the children of Wyandanch school acquire her love of technology and most of all of her love of reading.
Congratulations to Ms. Calandra!
