5 Separate Crashes Reported On Sunrise Highway Due To Weather
One two-car crash caused a chain reaction, resulting in four more crashes around the same area by cars trying to avoid the original crash.

NORTH BABYLON, NY β Five separate car crashes occurred around the same area on Sunrise Highway in North Babylon due to the weather conditions Thursday morning, according to Suffolk police.
Police said that the five crashes occurred near exit 40 around 8 a.m. Two cars crashed at that location and four other two-car crashes then followed while drivers tried to avoid crashing into the cars involved in the original crash.
Two people were taken to local hospitals for treatment of minor injuries. Icy road conditions are believed to have contributed to the crashes.

According to Suffolk County Executive Steve Bellone, during one of the crashes, a driver was ejected from their car and brought to South Shore University in Bay Shore.
The crashes were among 32 reported Thursday morning due to the snow and ice, Bellone announced during a press conference encouraging drivers to stay off the roads.
