NORTH BABYLON, NYβ€” The vacant building at 1273 Deer Park Ave. was going to become another 7-Eleven on the North Babylon strip but the deal is off the building remains vacant. The former Payless Shoe Source was announced as leased according to commercial real estate group AssetCRG but the deal is off, according to a broker with the company.

The Payless store occupied the site for over a decade before closing as part of the Payless corporate bankruptcy in 2019.

CNN Business News reported in August that Payless is planning a small comeback, however, with 300-400 stores planned to open in the U.S. in the next few years.

Broker Joe Mast had announced, β€œDue to the bankruptcy by Payless, these freestanding sites were great opportunities for the 7-Eleven to enter this market and this site was a perfect fit for their operation. 1273 Deer Park Avenue works well for them in terms of size, location, and key demographics.” The lease deal apparently fell through earlier this year, however, according to the Babylon town planning commissioner.

There are two existing 7-Eleven stores on Deer Park Ave. in Deer Park but none on the avenue in North Babylon.
