Throughout the month of April, Woods Road Elementary School in North Babylon
celebrated National Poetry Month with a series of activities. Students read a gallery of
poems that were posted in the hallway of the building and participated in β€œPoem In Your
Pocket Day” by reading poems aloud to their classmates. Former Woods Road Principal
Steve Golub even contributed to the celebrations by reading a poem he specifically wrote
for Woods Road students.

The Young American Poetry Digest serves as a national audience for student writing
while providing a publishing opportunity for young poets. Poems were selected by a panel
of educators who evaluated the overall quality of the poem based on the student’s age,
grade level as well as creativity, language, images, structure and poetic techniques.
