East Flatbush Teen Shot Dead Steps From Home: NYPD

19-year-old Deshonne Mitchell was fatally shot Sunday inside 136 E. 52nd St., according to police.

EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A 19-year-old East Flatbush man was fatally shot inside a neighborhood apartment building on Sunday afternoon, police said.

Police received a call at about 3:30 p.m. on Dec. 18 reporting a man shot inside 136 E. 52nd St., according to the NYPD.

Responding officers found Deshonne Mitchell, who lived just steps away on E. 52nd St., with a gunshot wound to his back, police said. Mitchell was taken to Kings County Hospital, where he passed away due to his injuries.

An investigation into the shooting was ongoing as of Monday morning, police said.

Mitchell was shot in the NYPD's 67th Precinct, which patrols East Flatbush. Through Dec. 11, major crimes were collectively up slightly in the 67th compared to the same time period last year, according to official police statistics, though only by 0.25 percent.

A total of 56 shootings with 70 victims,were recorded in the precinct through Dec. 11, compared to 53 shootings with 60 victims during the same period last year.
