Brooklyn ARTery has found a new home on a not-so-new block.

Brooklyn ARTery co-owner Susan Siegel always knew her shop couldn’t stay long at 1020 Cortelyou Rd. because her landlord had upcoming plans for the building. So when the time came to go, she decided to stay close – as close as across the street.
“1020 Cortelyou was a great place to get started and meet the neighbors and our customers,” Siegel said. “But all along we were looking to move and looking for the right place to move.”
That place, 1021 Cortelyou Rd., opened its doors as Brooklyn ARTery on June 8. Formerly a barbershop, the shop is now complete with a skylight, wood rafters, two storefront display windows and an exposed brick wall. Siegel also had the ceilings raised to twice their previous height.
“People feel we’re more accessible,” Siegel said, noting that she has seen a rise in new customers.
Brooklyn ARTery, also owned by Jocelyn Lucas, offers knitting, piano, crafting and other art classes, as well as one-of-a-kind merchandise. It is open every day except Monday. Hours are 12 to 8 p.m. except on Sundays (11 to 6 p.m.).
