This Brooklyn Neighborhood Has City's Coldest Tenants
A new analysis of NYC renters' heat complaints found one small Brooklyn neighborhood has the highest rate of freezing residents.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN -- A small patch of Flatbush has the coldest residents in New York City, according to a new report.
Eramus, a Flatbush subsection south of Prospect-Lefferts Gardens and bordered by Flatbush Avenue, was the top heat complaint neighborhood during the 2018 "heat season" and is on track to earn the title again this year, according to real estate analysts from RentHop.
RentHop noted this is not the first time Erasmus, with 117.5 unique complaints in 2018 and 670 in 2017, topped the list and pointed to lax city officials and landlords as the cause.

"The same landlords in the same areas still aren’t adequately heating their buildings," researchers wrote. "The same Department of Housing isn’t doing enough to make sure these people aren’t cold."
High heat complaint rates also correspond to rent prices, with low-income neighborhoods making the majority of complaints during "heat season," when landlords are required to maintain specific temperatures in their buildings.
