Hours after the 10-year-old boy's weeping parents came to Ocean Avenue to ask for safer streets, an SUV slammed into an MTA bus, injuring 6.

FLATBUSH, NEW YORK — An SUV slammed into an express MTA bus, sent it skidding across Ocean Avenue and into a pole Thursday night just blocks away from where Enzo Farachio, 10, was fatally mowed down on a sidewalk and hours after his weeping parents rallied for safer streets, officials said.
A BM1 driver and five passengers were hurt when an SUV slammed into the bus on Ocean Avenue and Avenue J about 11:30 p.m., according to the MTA and FDNY.
The bus, which has been driving through the green light, skidded into a light pole across the intersection and the white SUV's bumper was ripped from the car, according to the FDNY and photos.

His parents returned to Ocean Avenue and Avenue L, where Enzo was hit, hours before to ask the city to prioritize safer streets in south Brooklyn, where transit activists say an alarming number of traffic violence occurs.
Brooklyn is at the center of the spike in New York City traffic deaths this year, organizers from Transportation Alternatives and Families For Safe Streets said. The borough has seen a 72 percent increase in deaths in one year and is responsible for almost a third of the city's total pedestrian deaths and two thirds of the city's total cyclist deaths.
