CAMBA Holds Food Drive

The CAMBA food pantry feeds more than 52,000 Brooklyn men, women and children.

Non-profit CAMBA has kicked off its annual fall Where You Canned Food Drive to collect food for the more than 52,000 Brooklyn men, women and children who depend on the pantry to put food on their tables this year.

“More than half a million Brooklyn families live in poverty,” said CAMBA Executive Director Joanne Oplustil in a release. “This winter, they will be making desperate choices as they struggle to stretch budgets that are too small to meet all of their needs. Too often, families sacrifice food to pay for rent, heat or other necessities.”

"...[B]ravo to CAMBA . . . for their hard work combating a problem that affects too many Brooklynites," said Brooklyn Borough President Marty Markowitz, who is participating in the drive and collecting food at Brooklyn Borough Hall.

"With each item donated, we get a step closer to making sure no family is forced to ask the unimaginably difficult question: can we afford to put food on the table?,” he continued.

Needed items include: canned tuna, salmon and chicken; rice; beans; fruit; vegetables; pasta; canned or dried milk; cereal; peanut butter; and 100 percent fruit juice. Please do not contribute food that is past its expiration date or in dented cans.

Food can be dropped off from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Monday through Friday, at Brooklyn CAMBA sites located at:

  • 1720 Church Ave., 2nd Fl., 718-287-2600
  • 885 Flatbush Ave., Rm. 202, 718-287-0010, ext. 40200
