Canarsie Man Shot Dead in East Flatbush on Christmas: NYPD

Ramie Nesbeth was fatally shot outside of 1083 Utica Ave., police said.

EAST FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — A 30-year-old Canarsie man was shot dead on Christmas Day outside 1083 Utica Ave., police said.

Ramie Nesbeth was shot in the abdomen shortly before 1 p.m., police said. Nesbeth was taken to Brookdale Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

As of Tuesday, no arrests had been made, and an investigation into the shooting was ongoing. Police said Tuesday that they were looking for two black men who may have fled the scene in a tan SUV.

Nesbeth was shot in front of Big Boys Deli, located at the intersection of Utica and Beverley Road. One of the deli's owners told NY1 that Nesbeth regularly shopped there, and had just finished doing so when he walked out of the store and was shot.

As of Tuesday afternoon, a GoFundMe page was active in support of the costs of Nesbeth's funeral. The page, set up by a man named Errol Pearson in Hampton, Georgia, had garnered $130 dollars in donations, but was seeking to raise $10,000.

"As you know on Christmas Day, our loved one was brutally taken from us," the page read. "In efforts to ensure a proper burial we will accept any donations you may have. Thanks in advance."

Nesbeth was shot in the NYPD's 67th Precinct, which covers East Flatbush. Through Dec. 18, reports of major crimes were collectively down about 1 percent in the 67th compared to the same time period last year, according to NYPD statistics.

A total of 57 shootings with 71 victims were recorded in the precinct through Dec. 18, compared to 53 shootings with 60 victims during the same period last year.
