Church Avenue Southern Eatery Opens Thursday
The Dogwood brings Southern comfort food to Ditmas Park.

Yippee! The Dogwood, the new Southern restaurant and bar on Church Avenue is opening to the public tonight at 5 p.m.
Although the restaurant is owned by a young couple and has a very stylized look, the menu is traditional, with replete with standards like fried green tomatoes, fried chicken and cornbread. But the standards are often accompanied by a condiment with a twist, such as the hot pickled okra for the cornbread toasts, and lemon verbena aioli along with the fish sticks. Â
The restaurant gains authenticity both from owner Matt Weavil, who hails from North Carolina and executive chef Chris Sterna who hails from  influence comes both from executive chef Chris Sterna, who grew up in Tennessee. from North Carolina.Â
I'm sure the owners would want me to stress that this is a *soft opening* meaning that the full menu won't be available. But if the food is as good as it sounds on the full menu, I'm sure whatever is available tonight will be a treat.
If you get there, let us know how it is in the comments.Â
The Dogwood is located at 1021 Church Ave. at Stratford Road. 929-234-5692.Â
