Cowboy Crips Leader Pleads Guilty To Dealing Drugs, Toting AK-47

The Flatbush-based dealer Rahmel "Mello" Smith could spend the rest of his life in prison, federal prosecutors said.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — The leader of Flatbush's Eight Trey Cowboy Crips pleaded guilty to dealing drugs and toting an AK-47, according to federal prosecutors. Yeehaw.

Rahmel "Mello" Smith, 30, faces between 15 years to life in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to traffic cocaine, heroin and marijuana in Brooklyn Federal Court Thursday, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

“The defendant is now facing a significant prison sentence for endangering the Flatbush community," said Richard P. Donoghue, U.S. Attorney of the Eastern District of New York.

“This Office will continue to working tirelessly with our law enforcement partners to dismantle and eradicate violent street gangs like the Eight Trey Cowboy Crips.”

Prosecutors say Smith and fellow Cowboy Crips dealt crack, heroin and weed on a daily basis in Brooklyn between May 2018 and February 2019.

Upon pleading guilty, Smith turned over .25 caliber Lorcin pistol, a Jimenez 9mm pistol and the AK-47, a Romarm Cugir rifle, said prosecutors.

Two other Cowboy Crips, Michael "Scooter" Martin, 26, and Shakim "Sha" Carr, 39, pleaded
guilty earlier this year to conspiring to deal drugs and are awaiting sentencing, prosecutors said.
