'Cuddly' Parakeet Found in Prospect Park

Anyone missing a green-and-yellow house bird with a thing for belly rubs?

An adorable little man-parakeet — apparently a house pet who lost his way — was discovered on the eastern side of Prospect Park, near the Lincoln Street entrance, on Friday morning.

Prospect-Lefferts Gardens resident Beth Bickerton, 23, said she found the palm-sized bird flying around alone in the park and took him to her home on Nostrand for safekeeping.

“My dog is fascinated by it,” she said. ”He let the bird sit on him for a while. He didn’t know what to do. He just froze.”

The parakeet is extremely friendly, she said — leading her to believe he is ”probably a pretty loved pet” with a distraught owner looking for him somewhere out there in Brooklyn.

“He seems very cuddly,” Bickerton said. ”He likes to just sit on your fingers. He likes to flip over and have his belly rubbed. He’s a very strange little bird.”

“He’s pretty content to just hang out,” she added. ”Right now he’s walking around on my keyboard.”

Although she’s enjoyed their short time together, Bickerton said she was forced to drop the bird off at the Animal Care and Control (ACC) center in New Lots, Brooklyn on Friday afternoon, as she’s heading out of town for the weekend.

She recommended that anyone looking for the bird contact the Brooklyn ACC by calling 311.

“He certainly is something,” she said.
