Enjoy Free Ice Skating in Prospect Park Every Monday All Winter Long

You don't even need your own ice skates to enjoy this free winter offer.

PROSPECT PARK, BROOKLYN — Perhaps you're an expert on skates, a whirling dervish of icy delight. Maybe the thought of ice skating makes your ankles hurt. Either way, now is the time to address your passion (or fear) of the ice, because the LeFrak Center at Lakeside in Prospect Park is offering free Monday afternoon ice skating all winter long. (For comparison's sake, season passes for the Center's range of activities start at $115.)

The Sticks & Skates program is the combined effort of the LeFrak center, Brooklyn Sports and Entertainment, which runs programming at the Barclays Center, and the Hospital for Special Surgery.

The free skating kicked off this past Monday with guest appearances by legendary New York Islanders Bryan Trottier, Bobby Nystrom, Clark Gillies, and Butch Goring.

The program will run every Monday through March 27 from 3:30 p.m. to 5:15 p.m. You don't need to register or RSVP, and you don't need your own skates — rentals will be free. The skating is also open to all ages.

In 2017, program organizers hope to start running hockey clinics during the free skate hours, also open to all ages. Those events could feature additional drop-ins from pro athletes, according to a Sticks & Skates spokesperson.
