Fatal Flatbush Fire Was Homicide, Police Say
Police will investigate the death of Hugh Kirkland, who was killed in a East 96th Street blaze Tuesday afternoon, as a crime, they said.

FLATBUSH, BROOKLYN — The fire that ripped through a Brooklyn home and claimed the life of a man who lived inside has been ruled a homicide, according to police.
The NYPD will investigate the death of Hugh Kirkland, 64, who was found dead after flames erupted inside his home on East 96 Street near Willmohr Avenue Tuesday afternoon about 4 p.m., police said.
No arrests had been made as of Thursday morning, police said.

The Fire Marshal will investigate the cause of the fire and the medical examiner will determine what caused Kirkland's death, said police.
