Construction has already begun at the Flatbush Food Coop, which owners said will receive a new layout with extra exits, upgraded store fixtures such as new shelving and lighting, and new flooring.
"These improvements will help increase visibility and accessibility throughout the store," owners wrote, "as well as allowing us to better regulate the air temperature and improve the checkout experience."

The coop was founded in 1976 by a group of locals who hoped to bring organic food to Ditmas Park and is now run by a board of directors, according to the store website.
Unlike the Park Slope Coop, membership is not required to shop at the market, which stands on the corner of Cortelyou and Marlborough roads.
The store will remain open but some areas may be temporarily blocked during construction, coop owners wrote.
"We thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time."
